Insurance & Billing

Most medical insurance plans will NOT typically cover cosmetic or laser vision correction procedures.

Most medical insurance plans DO cover medically necessary treatment but it may be subject to a copayment or deductible.

Please contact your insurance company AHEAD of your appointment to understand what your medical, vision, and surgical benefits are.

The contact number is usually listed on the back of your card.

Our office is able to assist you with a financing program for elective medical procedures. Our billing office would be pleased to provide you with further details.

Washington Pacific Eye Associates accepts most major medical and vision insurance.

We may accept your insurance if it is not listed below. Please contact your insurance company to see if we are on their provider list.

Please note: If your insurance requires a referral from your primary care provider, you are responsible to secure this. We will work with you and your doctor, to assist in this important process.

Co-payments and non-covered services are due at the time of your visit. Be sure to provide us with current insurance information when making your appointment, as it is our policy to attempt pre-service verification of your coverage.

Everyone enjoys to know what they will need to pay out of pocket for their medical expenses. It helps you to know the coverage and benefit guidelines of your medical plan. The final determination of your coverage is always made by your insurance company. We highly encourage patients to contact their insurance member services representative regarding individual plan terms and limitations. Please call the number on your insurance card with any questions regarding coverage if you have any questions about your bill. Unfortunately we cannot call to find out what your benefits are on behalf of you due to HIPPA regulations and privacy laws.

Q&A:

Q: What if I have medical insurance, but I don't have a vision plan?

A: Not all people with medical insurance have vision insurance. Figuring out the difference between the two can be very confusing! Vision insurance is intended for routine eye exams in people who do not have eye concerns other than the need for glasses or contacts. It is our pleasure to work in a complementary fashion with the optometric physicians in our community who perform vision care along with other eye care services.

Medical insurance is indicated for evaluation of symptoms (redness, pain, grittiness, new floaters, new distorted vision, double vision), for care of eye diseases (for example, for conditions like glaucoma or diabetic eye disease) or screening in high risk patients (for example for patients on medications that may cause side effects in the eyes or patients with diabetes, high blood pressure or a family history of eye diseases).

As an ophthalmologist, Dr. Jennifer Lee has extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of both common and unusual eye conditions. We will provide you with a complete medical eye exam and bill under your medical insurance or your vision insurance. If you do not have vision insurance, you may need to pay for a refraction. A refraction is the process of checking your eyes for a glasses prescription. The cost is 75 dollars. There also may be an additional charge if you need to be fit for contact lenses. For new contact lens wearers the cost is 95 dollars. For patients who have worn contacts before in the past the cost is 65 dollars.

Q: What if I don't have insurance?

A: You are welcome at Washington Pacific Eye Associates. We do offer a cash discount for medical services. Also, if you are in a difficult financial situation, please let us know in advance so that we can discuss payment plan options.
